I have a slow cooker chicken recipe that I have been making for years. It came from a friend who went by Yarnivore in my knitting livestream community back when I was streaming on Twitch. She shared it in chat one night and I wrote it down and have been making it ever since. It is saucy, rich, and somehow gets even better the next day. And every time I make it, this chicken shredder is what I reach for when it comes out of the crockpot.
Shredding two forks worth of tender slow cooked chicken is not hard exactly, but it is slow and a little messy. This shredder does the same job in about a minute and the texture comes out consistently fine and even, which matters when the chicken is going into a saucy dish that needs it to absorb everything around it.

What this solves
Shredding meat by hand takes effort, especially with larger cuts. This gadget solves that by using sharp spikes on both the lid and base to tear meat apart as you twist. It’s quicker, neater, and easier than forks, especially if you’re prepping for tacos, casseroles, or BBQ.
How I use it
- Place cooked meat (chicken, pork, brisket) inside the base.
- Fit the lid with spikes into the tray.
- Grip the handles and rotate back and forth until meat is shredded.
- Remove skin or big chunks as needed, then shred again.
- Rinse after use and pop it in the dishwasher.

Real World Use
The crockpot is where most of my shredding situations start. Chicken goes in on low for six to eight hours, comes out fall-apart tender, and then gets shredded directly in the pot or transferred to a bowl first depending on how saucy things are. The shredder handles it cleanly either way.
I have also used it on pulled pork and brisket with the same results. Any meat that has been slow cooked to the point where it wants to fall apart anyway responds well to this tool. The twist motion does the work quickly and the texture is better than what you get from forks, more consistent and finer without turning into paste.
The spike cleaning is the only part that requires attention. Meat gets into the spaces between the spikes and needs to be rinsed out thoroughly. I run it under hot water first to loosen everything and then put it in the dishwasher. That combination keeps it clean without any scrubbing.
Yarnivore’s Chicken: The Recipe Worth Making This Week
This recipe came from my friend Yarnivore, a regular in my knitting livestream community on Twitch. She dropped it in chat years ago and it has been in my regular rotation ever since. It is one of those crockpot recipes that makes your whole house smell incredible all day and rewards you with almost no effort at dinnertime.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb chicken breast
- 2 cans cream of mushroom soup (add a can of mushrooms if you want extra)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 3 to 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3/4 to 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 pouch dry ranch seasoning
- 1 tablespoon Italian dressing
- Parsley to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1 stick cream cheese
Instructions:
- Add everything except the cream cheese to the crockpot.
- Cook on low 6 to 8 hours or high 4 to 6 hours.
- Add the cream cheese and cook 20 minutes more.
- Shred the chicken using your chicken shredder, mix everything together, and serve over egg noodles.
Even better the next day.
Make it your way: No Italian dressing? Leave it out. Prefer cream of chicken or cream of celery? Swap it for the mushroom soup. Want less fat cream cheese? Go for it. Rather have it over mashed potatoes? Absolutely. This recipe is forgiving and flexible, adjust it to whatever you have on hand and it will still be good.

Pros
- Shreds chicken, pork, and brisket quickly.
- Non-slip base keeps it steady.
- Dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
- Compact and easy to store.
Cons
- Meat can stick between the spikes and takes a minute to clear.
- Sharp points require care when cleaning.
Key features of the chicken shredder
- Spiked lid and base design for quick shredding.
- Easy-grip handles.
- Non-skid pads on the bottom for stability.
- Dishwasher safe construction.
Should you buy it
If you make shredded meat dishes regularly, whether it is slow cooker chicken, pulled pork, or brisket, this chicken shredder saves you the time and hand fatigue of fork shredding and delivers a more consistent result. It earns its drawer space quickly when shredded meat is a regular part of how you cook. And if you make Yarnivore’s chicken even once, you will be reaching for it every time it comes out of the crockpot.

Final thoughts on the chicken shredder
This little tool surprised me with how well it works. It turns a rotisserie chicken into fine shreds in minutes and handles pulled pork or brisket just as easily. It’s earned a permanent spot in my kitchen lineup.
